Three day weekend trips are some of my favorites especially when you live in New England! There are so many places that you can visit in New England, which give you a vacation feel without you having to go too far! They allow you to see the city and enjoy some of its highlights in a short amount of time. My friend Greta was visiting from Austria and we decided that Maine would be our mini vacation spot for the weekend! I love Maine – let’s just get that out of the way. The people, the food and the scenery. The scenery in Maine is straight out of a storybook! The homes, the shore life and the food are some of the reasons why I love Maine! I also only eat seafood when in Maine … and fries. I go to this spot called Duck fat and have their fries … hmmm just reminiscing about it all gets me excited.
We picked two of my favorite locations: Kennebunkport and Portland.
Kennebunkport
It took an hour and a half to get to Kennebunkport from Boston. It’s one of the reasons I love Maine getaways! The distance gave us the opportunity for a road trip … and who doesn’t love road trips?!

When heading up to Maine, I packed for comfort and warmth. Here is my packing list:
- A pair of jeans
- Two head wraps
- A jean jacket
- An off the shoulder gingham top
- A tent dress
- Two pairs of converse sneakers
- A crossbody purse
- Two sunglasses
- Jewelry – I kept these very simple: studs and small loop earrings
- Two sweatshirts: one purchased during the trip in Kennebunkport
- Pajamas – long sleeve tops – the nights get cool
- Underwear
- 1 pair of slippers
- 1 Towel and 2 face cloths
We stayed at the Breakwater Inn and Spa. This quaint hotel was perfectly located about 5 minutes drive away from the center of town. We got to Kennebunkport in the afternoon and decided to take a walk along the coastline after checking in.

This surreal home was located right by the water. Half the fun on our walk was guessing who lives in these homes. Maine is where I like to go to clear my head.

Took a photo of this church on our walk. The image draws you in so much! It’s almost mesmerizing.

I love the fact that Maine has so many lighthouses! I’m fascinated by the stories behind each lighthouse … are they haunted? Did they guide lost sailors home? What’s the story there? Looking to explore? Maine has everything you need!

The town of Kennebunkport has tons of places to shop. Some of my favorties are Seas the day – a clothing store where you can find some of the comfiest branded sweatshirts. Or Saxony, where you can get some souvenirs.

There are tons of places to eat in Kennebunkport. Personally, I only eat sea food in Maine … lobster to be specific. Here are some of my favorite places to eat when in Kennebunkport:
- Alisson’s restaurant
- Stripers waterside restaurant
- Roma pizza
- On the marsh bistro
- Salt and honey
- Ben and Jerry’s

Grab some maple syrup from The Old Salt’s Pantry.

My friend Greta and I travel so well together! We toured Austria, Vienna, together two summers ago (see post here). We’ve been friends for 12 years!

Portland
The next day we drove about 40 minutes to Portland. I love the fact that the places we visited are close to each other making it so easy to see more of Maine in one weekend!
I go to Portland for the food. Gosh, I feel like it’s the running theme here …. but a girl’s gotta eat! We stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn, which was pretty conveniently located just a 10 minute drive from the city.

Portland was raining when we visited but it did not stop me from dressing up for the day in my favorite African print dress along with my newly purchased ”Kennebunkport’ sweatshirt. Everywhere I go I bring at least one African print outfit.

These are my favorite places to eat in Portland:
- Petite Jacqueline
- Portland lobster company
- Dimillio’s on the water
- Duck fat
- Otto
- The holy donut
- Others!
- Gorgeous gelato
- Bard coffee
- Higher grounds

Have you ever been to Maine? What did you do? Also let me know if you eat at any of these locations!
