When my girl Greta moved to Vienna I promised her that I would be making a trip before she graduated. So when I got a chance, I got on a plane and headed over. Now, I’ve lived in Europe before but I had never visited Vienna. Ladies and gentlemen welcome to my favorite European city!
Vienna, Austria had all the makings of a romantic European city: grandiose architecture, delectable food, classical music and historic artwork. Some dream of Paris but this Africancocktail is in love with Vienna.
When I got to Vienna I didn’t have an itinerary, I just wanted to enjoy the city and hang out with one of my favorite people. This may have been why I really let loose. I’m usually one of those people who enjoys pre-planning a trip. You know – where to eat, what’s the most instagrammed spot, popular lounges etc. I like knowing where I am going. But there are some trips, like this one where I threw all the ‘type A’ planning to the wind and decided that it was time to just BE.
And boy did Vienna reward me for my reckless abandon …

Regardless of the continent, I always try to visit the marketplace not only for the chachkies but to also get to feel the pulse of the city. I don’t get visiting a place and only staying on the resort. Why did you even go? I love stepping out: meeting locals, tasting new foods, hearing the buzz in the city and haggling where I can. Enter Naschmarkt – a market right in the city where I was able to experience all my favorite parts of marketplace shopping in a new city! Just look at these pics guys …
I love buying spices and/or teas when traveling abroad. It’s great being able to incorporate some of the tastes from my vacation when back home in Boston. I get transported back to the markets or to the restaurant, which truly gives me a great appreciation for the holiday.

This clock’s history is one of my faves! It’s one of the remnants of old Vienna. A reference to a time where the Bourgeoisie enjoyed the finer things in life. At each hour a character can be seen walking across from one end of the clock to another. At noon the entire celebrity cast of characters can be seen parading as the clock chimes.
