Summer is in full swing and picnics are all the rage! They allow you to socially distance and enjoy the fresh air mask free! Picnics are giving us the semblance of normalcy – if only for a couple of hours.
So when I told my friend Randell that I was going to pay her a visit in Virginia, she planned the most beautiful spread for our summer picnic. Usually she and I take a trip so a different country but as we are both grounded this summer, this picnic was the getaway that we both needed. So how did she pull this off – and more importantly, how can you do the same?
Pack lots of fruits and vegetables. We had an assortment of grapes, melons, bananas, mangoes … if it was tropical and could fit in the basket, we brought it along!
Have some cheese and meats on the ready for a mini charcuterie board setup.
Don’t forget the drinks! Neither Randell nor I drink so we treated ourselves to some non-alcoholic champagne!
Ensure that you have some bread and crackers.
Don’t forget the entertainment: we had Jenga, magazines, music, UNO … entertainment is key!
Once you have these elements, pack them in your picnic basket, grab a couple of blankets and you are good to go!
I’m Binja, an African based healthcare IT consultant by day and an #Africancocktail at all times! Who is an #Africancocktail? Allow me to explain: I’m half Congolese (DRC) and half Kenyan (hella African) – that along with the fact that I’ve grown up in five countries on three continents has contributed to my being an amalgamation of cultures (or in my case a cocktail). Yes, I’m one of those ‘third culture kids’ who sounds British but speaks Swahili and French with an American accent. So yes folks – I’m an #Africancocktail!
