The Zimbabwe Run Down

VISA PROCESS

For once, I did NOT need a visa! Zimbabwe is one of the few countries that allows Congolese citizens entry without the visa requirement! I lived in Zimbabwe for about two and a half years and I love this country so much!

OVERALL

As mentioned, I lived in Harare, Zimbabwe for two years and hadn’t been back since 2010! So it was a 10 year homecoming. Looking at Harare through grown up eyes, I still think it’s one of the best cities in Africa! Yes, the economic situation is beyond desperate and so many people are in need. However, the Zimbabwean resiliency is still very much alive. The country’s infrastructure is at about a 7/10 , which in Africa is really good! I honestly think that with better governance this country can shine once more!

Looking at Harare and Zimbabwe from a purely touristic point of view, it’s an amazing place to visit! Many of the big 5 live in the country and the lodges are seriously to die for! The people are so generous and the craft markets just have me ready to spend all my money!

WOULD I GO BACK?

I would 100% go back! Zimbabwe is a must visit location. Zimbabwe is hands down a place I will be visiting and touring in the near future!

RECOMMENDATIONS:

  • I recommend going in their summer months – so avoid traveling between May – July.
  • I recommend booking your lodging at a place that offers packages that include game drives or visits to the Victoria Falls.
  • I also recommend haggling! I know many people aren’t comfortable with the back and forth but I think it’s an awesome way to get to engage with the local folks.
  • I recommend converting as much money as possible as purchasing in US dollars is incredibly expensive.
