Gratitude In The Midst of Many Trials

Chileeee it’s been a year! I started the year in Boston and will be closing it out in Bukavu, DRC. I couldn’t have predicted this life change in January but here we are!

I moved home (Kinshasa) four months ago and intercontinental moving was trying. As I type this blog post not at my stuff is with me! The year presented many challenges and cultivated a lot of gratitude.

I talked about the things I was grateful for in this Thanksgiving post last year here. This year – well we didn’t even have a Thanksgiving post! However, there is still lots to be grateful for:

  1. I’m alive! In a year where COVID-19 aka Rona has killed thousands, I’m still here, testing negative and fit as a fiddle. All things that I am incredibly grateful for!
  2. I have family that I love and that loves me. Yes, I am fully cognizant of the fact that many either don’t have family, don’t talk to their family or even don’t know who their family is. Yet here I am, back home and honestly more grateful for my family than I have ever been. I couldn’t have moved and made all these life changes without their support and guidance.
  3. I have opportunities. This isn’t something you hear people talk about but I am incredibly grateful for the fact that despite having left Boston this summer, I still have opportunities both on the work front professionally as well as on the blogging front creatively. I am so grateful.
  4. I am grateful for my friends and coworkers. Y’all, I had the best Zoom going away parties thrown by my friends and then coworkers, which reminded me so much of the importance of community. My tribe celebrated the move with me and supported me by housing my stuff, shipping it halfway across the world, hosting virtual Thanksgivings so that we could reconnect … y’all get the picture, I have an amazing tribe.

I have many things to be grateful for, which for some, I cannot even begin to fully articulate. However, I do want you to take the time to stop, look around, take account of everything that you have made it through, succeeded in and overcame in 2020. You have so much to be grateful for. We have so much to be grateful for!

What are you grateful for this year?
