I legit only listen to Afrobeats when working out (see my fitness posts here, here & here). Unless I’m in a Zumba class or following along a YouTube workout video, I’m only playing music from African artists. Every time I post a story on my Instagram @Africancocktail, I usually feature an African artist and there’s always someone asking who the artist is. So I went ahead and added my entire Afrobeats playlist on my site here for y’all to enjoy! So, what will I be listening to when working out this spring?
These are the songs that I listen to when I’m activating my muscles (stretching and increasing my heart rate) pre-workout.
Broken Heart by Sarkodie ft Sista Afia
Mwasi ya Congo by Dadju ft Gas Mawete
Poko by Kizz Daniel
La Même by Maître Gims ft. Vianney
Hammer by Bisa Kdei
Marry You by Diamond Platnumz ft Ne-Yo
Go Time!
This is the music that I play when I’m ready to really get my heart rate going. The tempo goes up and a lot of the times these are some of my favorite songs. So, it’s so much fun to play these songs and work out as well – they are legit my motivation to keep pushing harder and harder.

This is my favorite part of the workout! Yes, I know many people love the actual workout but I’m glad when it’s over – and my playlist reflects that lol! It’s a mix of slower paced music, which allows my heart rate to slow down post workout.

Girl Next Door by Sauti Sol ft. Tiwa Savage
Olufunmi by Styl-Plus

I’m Binja, an African based healthcare IT consultant by day and an #Africancocktail at all times! Who is an #Africancocktail? Allow me to explain: I’m half Congolese (DRC) and half Kenyan (hella African) – that along with the fact that I’ve grown up in five countries on three continents has contributed to my being an amalgamation of cultures (or in my case a cocktail). Yes, I’m one of those ‘third culture kids’ who sounds British but speaks Swahili and French with an American accent. So yes folks – I’m an #Africancocktail!
