I’m becoming a fan of monochromatic looks! I styled an all pink look here, an all white look here and now this royal blue look below. I enjoy styling monochromatic looks and there are just a couple of rules that I always follow when styling them. Keep reading for my four tips to successfully pulling off a monochromatic look. Here we go!

1. USE VARYING SHADES OF THE SAME COLOR
I know when you hear monochromatic the immediate thought is the same color, which is correct; however, to pull this look off effortlessly, it’s important to avoid being match-y mach-y. It’s best to use varying hues of the same color and not the exact color top to bottom.
2. USE DIFFERENT TEXTURES
This is my go-to tip when styling monochromatic looks: do not use the same fabric textures in the same look! I love mixing fabrics as it makes the look more versatile. Mixing textures allows you to dress up or dress down a look. For instance, this look can now be worn at the office or to a networking event. Using different textures allows for more creativity in your styling!
3. USE ACCESSORIES TO BREAK UP THE COLOR
I love accessories. I don’t know that I can say that a look is complete without any accessories. My tip here is to use different colored accessories. The accessories, in my opinion, become the pieces that add that je ne sais quoi to the look. They are the icing on the cake and in my opinion a chance to show your creative edge. I’ve paired monochromatic looks with accessories that have gold hardware (zippers, handles etc) or fringe to make the look ‘pop’. Accessories give you a chance to express your fashion sense in an otherwise uniform look.
4. USE SEPARATES
Finally, when styling monochromatic looks, stick to separates. Separates allow you to be more creative in your styling and also allow you to create interchangeable monochromatic looks. This look features a chambray shirt and a satin skirt, which as previously mentioned, can be worn to more conservative and formal settings. However, if you paired this chambray shirt with a dark wash blue jeans, it allows for a more casual look while staying true to the monochromatic theme.
