30 Skirts In 30 Days – Sunday Best

Day 1

My first style series: 30 skirts in 30 days is finally here. Am I excited? Yes. Am I nervous … yes. But will I definitely bring you 30 styled looks for the next 30 days with styling tips and links to purchase? Yes. Yes, folks – I will! Where did this idea to style 30 skirts come from? Well, one of my favorite bloggers Mary Orton has a bi-annual series: 30 dresses in 30 days, which I absolutely am obsessed with. I had been #instastalking her feed for a while and recently stumbled upon her blog, which if you haven’t already bookmarked to read after this blog – you should! Mary’s 30 dresses series was chockfull of straight up no-holds-barred fashion along with the most practical styling tips. Seeing how she made high-end fashion so accessible, I figured that I could do the same á la #Africancocktail!

So here we are with the first of 30 looks! It’s a look I call Sunday Best, which is inspired by the poet Drake from his famous piece Elevate. He says, “I wanna thank God for workin’ way harder than Satan. He’s playin’ favorites, it feels amazin.” This look encapsulates the essence of this quote. It’s been a long year folks and nothing says perspective than choosing joy even in tough situations because – and I will allow all the church folk to join me here in quoting the verse (Romans 8:28) that says – all things work together for good for them that love the Lord. And the church said ‘Amen’. Also, it doesn’t hurt to flex when God has been this good to you!

This ruffle maxi skirt from Ash and Rose along with the Kenzie blouse are perfectly paired to project the modesty that a Sunday Best outfit demands. Additionally, this look is a nod to Carolina Herrera. The crisp white shirt paired with a beautiful voluminous skirt are a signature of hers, which I love so much as it makes for an easy look to replicate … and who wouldn’t want to emulate a queen like Carolina Herrera?

Putting together the black and white look is super easy for you to do! Here’s my guide to styling black and white:

  1. Look for dimension. In this outfit the ruffles add dimension to the skirt. This makes the skirt more interesting and less one note. I always try to go for skirts that have an extra something – in this case a ruffle, in others, a print.
  2. Pair with shoes and accessories that add a pop of color to make the overall look more high-end and fashion forward
  3. Throw on a pair of diva sized sunglasses and a red lip
  4. Get that Drake Elevate attitude and go! You look amazing. You did that!
