Company Holiday Party

Day 10

December brings with it company holiday parties as well as the frantic search for the perfect holiday outfit. Many of us teeter between styling for the season, dressing in a ‘work appropriate manner’ and bringing our authentic selves to the event. So how does one overcome these hurdles?

Rule 1: Always go for what feels like you. By this I mean that you should always dress as you would. Now, you should ask yourself: is this work appropriate? is this to revealing? is this something that would make others uncomfortable? I believe in letting your freak flag fly but company holiday parties still require decorum. You are still at work – yes there is alcohol involved – but these are your coworkers. I always suggest picking one feature of your outfit as the pièce de résistance! The one that says I am here! It could be a tie, a tie clip, the fabric of the outfit or even the color.

Rule 2: Comfort is king. Nothing is worse that wearing heels at a holiday party and being uncomfortable the entire night! I always say – stay in your pocket. If heels aren’t really your thing, then don’t wear them! If you are trying to take a fashion risk or push yourself to try new things I suggest you bring in back up (get your flats!). There are so many cute alternatives to wearing stilettos! You can wear chunky heels, flats (like these from Zara), knee high boots … bref! There are many ways to go about looking great and being comfortable.

Rule 3: Go all out! Yes – this is a time for you to really push the boundaries. I’m here for all kinds of fashion risks that are taken after rule 1 and 2 have been accounted for. SO yes, wear that velvet jumpsuit or that open back dress or even that mini skirt. Girl – go ahead and do your thing. It is a party after all!

For my holiday look I figured I would choose bold colors so I went with pink and red. I chose comfort with my heels. These Zara babies can go all night and the fact that they are a perfect color match makes this look even more festive. I wore my Chicwish skirt and this hot pink sweater. My midi skirt length is perfect for a company party as I’m not about to start flashing my thickums thighs to any of my coworkers. No ma’am! Lastly, I live in Boston so it’s a no-brainer that a coat is literally part of every holiday outfit – especially with these temperatures in mind!
